On my way to the grocery store this morning, I decided to stop at the neighborhood recycling center with my empty cans and glass (and of course, my empty PET and milk bottles - but those need to go back to the store...NOT the recycling center) As soon as I deposited my recyclables in the appropriate receptacles, a woman passing by said something to me in Swiss German that I couldn't make out - shocker...I can't believe I don't understand the people around here yet! Since I assumed she was telling me I did something wrong (I had only cleaned out the cans and removed the paper labels - but hadn't cut off the bottoms and flattened them...the horror!) - I gave her a quick "Spreche kein Deutsch" and went on my merry way. However as I continued following her while she peered at her iPhone, I realized she had actually been asking me for directions, not reprimanding me! So I decided to approach her in my broken German and then actually helped her find the street she was looking for - Kreuzstrasse - right in my very own neighborhood. Yeah, that's right - I helped a Swiss woman find her way around Zürich - good thing I was there - since the updated iPhone mapping function stinks!
Good job! So only green, blue, red and undefined colored glass in that recycle bin and no deposits on Sunday or holidays? That's weird!
