No Subtitles Needed...

One of the great things about living in a place like Zürich and being an expat is that you tend to do the kinds of things here that you would probably never think of doing back home...for example, taking a backstage tour of the Zürich Opera House!  The American Women's Club of Zürich arranges lots of great excursions, programs, dinners and activities such as this.  For only 15 CHf, we received a 90 minute tour with a woman from the Opera House who spoke nearly perfect English...what a bargain!  As the 2012 - 13 schedule includes "Romeo und Julia" (Romeo and Juliet) and "Die Schatzinsel" (Treasure Island) is premiering on November 17, many of the photos below relate to these two shows...

Box seats in the auditorium.

Waiting for the audience to arrive.

Back stage as the crew sets up for a rehearsal.

In honor of my friend and prop mistress extraordinaire, Betsy...
some props for Treasure Island.

A multitude of real candles for Romeo and Juliet.

A big bin of horses...??

The weapon wall...a boy's dream come true!

In the costume closet - clothing for Romeo and Juliet and Figaro.

Who put the white boots in the red boots section??

The milliner's workroom - check out that starfish number at the back!

Wall of Fame outside of make-up...too bad we don't know any of them!
